Chapter 8: politiCal geography
Overview
Key issue 1 describes where states are distributed. It describes how almost the entire land area of the world is divided into states, though what defines a state is not always distinct. Key issue 2 describes why states are difficult to create. It also explains that local diversity increased in political affairs, as individual cultural groups have demanded more control over the territory they inhabit. Key issue three describes the boundaries between states and within states. " Boundary lines are not painted on Earth, but they might as well be, for these natural divisions are very real (Cultural Landscape 260)." Key issue four talks about the competition and the coorperation between states. It explains how political conflicts during the twentieth century were dominated by globalization of war fare. It explains World War One, World War Two, and September 11, 2001.
